Purpose of our Child Development Program
The Lakewood United Methodist Church Child Development Program is an extension of the Children's Ministries of the church. We desire for each child to know God through everyday experiences as teachers and students are involved in Christian living together. We believe that a high quality early childhood program provides a safe and nurturing environment, which fosters self-esteem. In addition, Lakewood United Methodist Church Child Development Program provides a program that stimulates and supports growth in all developmental areas - physical, social, emotional, creative, intellectual and spiritual, because all areas of a child's development are interrelated.
Our classrooms are designed to provide developmentally appropriate activities for the children, using a combination of large group, small group and individual activities. Children are provided opportunities for:
- Creative learning
- Pretending
- Process-oriented art
- Language development
- Pre-reading and reading skills
- Pre-writing skills
- Pre-math skills
- Discovery (science)
- Counting
- Sorting
- Matching
- Classifying
- Building
- and much more!
The three- to five-year-old classes attend chapel, music and motor skills classes once a week, participate in cooking activities and go on field trips.
