District (summer) camp is offered for students in grades 5-12 (those entering 5th grade through graduating seniors). Campers enjoy a week of outdoor fun and fellowship through small group meetings, games and activites, all in the piney woods setting of Lakeview Methodist Conference Center near Palestine, Texas.
U.M. ARMY
Lakewood UMC has a long and distiguished history with U.M. ARMY, a nationwide youth mission experience designed to develop leadership and spiritual growth for all participants. Students (who have completed the ninth grade through college) stay in churches in rural southeast Texas for one week and provide basic home repairs and improvements for people in need. In 2007, we hosted College Camp and served in the communities of Acres Homes, Woodville and Fulshear; plans for 2008 include attending College Camp in Pasadena in May and work camps in Huntsville and Buffalo in July.
JUMMP
Our junior high mission experience is very similar to U.M. ARMY, but participants attend Monday through Friday and undertake home repair and clean up projects on a more modest scale (in keeping with their work experience). For 2007, we went to College Station the week of June 4-8; more information and plans for 2008 (we're going July 7-11) can be obtained by contacting Eddie Erwin.
